Un-wined is the name for a popular and interactive series of wine courses held at the Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town.

Hosted by wine impresario and educator Karen Glanfield, the courses aim at demystifying wine while at the same time providing course-goers with some insight into vineyards, vinification and wine styles.

Early this year Karen decided it was time to introduce course-goers to the Robertson region and Rietvallei Estate was invited to lead one of the presentations.

The 40 odd course-goers went through six Rietvallei wines: Sauvignon Blanc, JMB Chardonnay, Estéanna White, JMB Cabernet Franc, Estéanna Red and our Muscadel, and a lively discussion ensued on the regional characteristics of Robertson and which varieties are associated with the region.

Un-wined course-goers chose the JMB Chardonnay 2014 as the wine of the evening, which I was really pleased to hear. We have put a lot of work into our flagship JMB brand, and there are some great Chardonnays in South Africa. To have the JMB garner this kind of claim from wine lovers was wonderful news.

Whilst on the topic of the JMB Chardonnay 2014: This wine won a Silver Medal at this year's Chardonnay du Monde Competition in France. This year 826 wines from 41 countries were entered into the world's leading competition. And while we have won Gold in the past, we are very pleased at the Silver performance by this wine.
